English version

Psychologists and educationalists speak of “early adolescence” when talking about the delicious – and delightful – time when a child cuts the apron strings to explore the world and when it expresses, sometimes in quite a bold way, its identity, desires and objections. This is the phase into which CeROArt has now entered, under the sometimes worried, but often affectionate eyes of its conceivers.

As a magazine devoted to the Conservation, exposition, Restoration of Objets d’Art, CeROArt affirmed right from the start its desire to approach these subjects from the rational viewpoint of human and social sciences; additionally to categorical cases its aim was to reflect on practices in order to understand their origins and prepare their future. In line with this, we are pleased and proud to announce that we have from this second edition onwards joined the international network of scientific publications “revue.org”, which is supported by the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research), the EHESS (Paris College of Higher Education in Social Sciences), the University of Avignon and the Provence University. We would like to compliment them on the professionalism and the competence of their staff: without the efficient aid of Ms. Lisa Georges we could not even have dreamed of ever presenting this Autumn release to you on the new platform.

However, this change required some adaptations, like switching from HTML programming to working with the Lodel CMS which makes the use of certain rendering methods mandatory. The initial structure of the magazine hasn’t changed much: you’ll find the same sections, but you’ll also benefit from continuous updating of news items regarding research, links and announcements, which from now on will be called «chroniques» (chronicles). The author and key word indices are currently under revision and soon an RSS feed will keep you informed about our latest news. We are also participating in the general calendar of scientific announcements, Calenda, maintained by revues.org. The relaunch of our forums will take place simultaneously with the publication of the 2009 spring edition nr. 3, which will be devoted to «Errors, mistakes and forgeries».

CeROArt’s other ambitions were to build bridges between the North and South, to interlink conservation and restoration practices as each is sometimes ignored in the other field, to promote, through French-English bilingualism, openness and exchanges. Perhaps as a result of some kind of nostalgia for a humanist Europe, when there were no borders for scientists and knowledge, this project, making use of new information and communication technologies, has taken a more concrete form. Two institutions, one in France and the other in the Netherlands joined this Belgian initiative in 2008 which emerged within ESA Saint-Luc Liège. We can now count on their cooperation and support. They don’t need to prove their reputation anymore: they are the Centre Interrégional de Conservation-Restauration du Patrimoine (CICRP) of Marseille and Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg (SRAL) of Maastricht and they also joined the editorial committee, being represented by Alain Colombini and René Hoppenbrouwers. We are pleased that they represent the link between CeROArt and its partners and that they contribute to the emancipation of its e-magazine.

Thus, the only thing that remains to be done is offering you this rich and varied issue, inviting you to become one of our readers and contributors, to share, actively, your knowledge, your thoughts, your questions regarding all the issues in our disciplines, which are just waiting to be addressed in an improved environment of exchange and interaction.
